Alcatel One Touch 700
|
HAVING only used Nokia and Motorola phones all this while, it was quite refreshing to get my hands on the Alcatel One Touch 700.
Everything to do with it seemed different from the phones I’d used before – beginning with the amber coloured backlights right down to the phone’s features and design.
What took me by surprise was that there was no battery in the packaging. However, a quick se-cond look showed that the power unit was already in the One Touch 700! Wow. This phone is so light even with the battery pack. But don’t for a second think that this is some kind of trade off that’ll leave you with less battery life. It isn’t. This baby can last up to more than three days on standby and with some talk time thrown in – okay, okay, with me it’s always more than just “a little” talk time. Happy now? But you see what I mean. I didn’t need to recharge the phone in slightly over three days of use. Now that’s something.

Moving on, we now come to the phone’s features. Now, the first question everyone asks about this phone on seeing it for the first time is “What’s that round thing with ‘OK’ printed on it?”
Well, that’s what Alcatel calls a Multi-directional DriveKey and it’s probably one of the most important keys on the phone – next to the cancel key, that is ;-)
It allows you to move through the phone’s menus by moving the screen in four directions; up, down and from side to side. Selection is done by pressing the same key in. Neat.
Another feature I like on the One Touch 700 is its active flip which lets users answer calls on opening this cover. There’s a little slide on the side that flips it open so you won’t have to struggle each time a call comes in if you have your other hand occupied.
Meanwhile, at the top right corner of the phone’s face is the “personalisation key” which allows you to bind it to any of the phone’s functions for easier access (i.e. to put it into silent mode).
The One Touch 700’s contact list – better known as the phone book to most of us – is able to store up to 300 entries. The best part is that it has multiple fields which let you add other details aside from just phone numbers. Then there’s the scheduler. I personally feel that every phone should have this feature. It saves me the trouble of getting another device to remind me of my appointments.
This feature lets you hold up to 300 appointments which you may choose to view in three different modes – daily, weekly or monthly.
