Motorola E680
|
The Motorola E680 is the first Linux-based mobile handset released outside the Far East by Motorola. It is an absolutely astonishing handset that combines smart Motorola know-how and design in an innovative package for GSM networks.
The Motorola E680 runs an embedded version of the Linux operating system, providing an extremely powerful platform for serious applications and games.
It has a large 240x320 pixel colour TFT touch-sensitive display (actually half resolution of a standard VGA), as well as a built-in VGA camera with 8X digital zoom, and all these features are packed in a very stylish and compact case that is a real head turner.
The Motorola E680 is an extremely powerful handset - in fact it is better to describe it as a PDA or small handheld computer that can also make phone calls. The embedded Linux operating system being perhaps the most powerful platform, provides with incredible stability for games, applications as well as multimedia features.

In fact, multimedia seems to be the key acpect Motorola decided to concentrate on in their latest models, and it seems with a considerable success. As well as Motorola E398 aimed at the lower end of the market, the Motorola E680 offers 3D stereo sound in addition to MP3 and RealPlayer support, MPEG-4 video capture and playback, MIDI ringtones and downloadable 3D J2ME™ Java™ games. Embedded Linux OS as a platform provides advanced 3D graphics accelerator as well as highly sophisticated audio features. And the Motorola E680 seems to be able to do all of this without compromising its design, making it possible the most powerful and practical handheld games and media platform available.
It has 32Mb of an in-built standard shared memory that can be upgraded to a huge 1Gb using SD cards, which is enough for plenty of MP3 tracks, video clips, games and pretty much anything else you'd like to squeeze on.
PC connectivity is through Bluetooth or USB cable. And if you actually want to use it as a phone, then it is a GPRS capable Tri-band device that can use the touchscreen as an active dialling pad.
The Motorola E680 is probably the most advanced GSM phone currently announced for the market.
