Siemens M65 is a tri-band cameraphone, which makes it a suitable handset for the global roaming of most parts of the world. This is a candy bar styled mobile phone that comes in the colour finish called “cool grey”, and it is designed to appeal to the outdoor type of person, as can be seen from Siemens advertisements that prominently show a mountain biker. Therefore, a significant selling point for this phone is that it was designed to withstand some rough treatment such as shock, dust and water splashes. The model is helped in this task by its rugged design of case, with a rubber bumper and full metal frame being incorporated into the body, which makes this phone robust enough for outdoor use or in a sporting situation. Indeed, there is an optional accessory called a Bike-o-Meter, a cradle that allows you to fit the phone to a bicycle, and you can then use the phone as a cyclometer computer for calculating information about your bike ride.

The M65 has a good range of other features built it, including GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging, video recording download and playback, a speakerphone for hands-free conversations, Java enabled, digital voice memo recorder, full e-mail client, and an aircraft mode (so you can use games and organiser features while switching off the phone's transmitter and receiver).

The display is a TFT type of active matrix LCD screen that can offer a resolution of 132 x 176 pixels, and it also has the capability to reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. This high-definition screen provides a good display for viewing the phone's icon-based menu system, as well as a way to check on the results of pictures and video clips that you take with the phone's camera. Furthermore, being MMS enabled, the M65 can exchange multimedia messages with other MMS compatible phones, or you might prefer to send your multimedia messages to an e-mail address. The MMS messages you create with this phone may contain a combination of texts, pictures/video, and sounds. The phone's ability to reproduce video means that you can also download video clips to the phone, and play them back with supporting sound.

The M65 has an integrated VGA quality camera, with the lens fitted on the phone's back cover. There is a choice of 4 picture qualities that you can use with the camera: VGA (640 x 480 pixels), QVGA (320 x 240 pixels), QQVGA (160 x 120 pixels), and a wallpaper size (132 x 176 pixels). The same camera is used for taking both still pictures and video, and some of its other features include a 5x digital zoom control, the means to adjust the exposure settings (depending on ambient lighting conditions), and a timer to assist with the taking of self-portraits. To help with indoor shots and night photography, an IFL-600 flashgun with a redeye setting is available as an optional accessory, and this can be plugged into the phone when needed.

As with almost all phones nowadays the M65 may be personalised with new content, such as different ringtones, wallpapers, screensavers, animations, pictures, logos, and “themes” (complete visual presentations for your phone). New content can be downloaded from the Siemens portals, or from your service provider, when you want to change the phone's sound and appearance. One useful feature is that sounds and voices recorded with the phone's digital memo recorder can also be used as your personal ringtones. Likewise, the pictures taken with the integrated camera may then be used as wallpapers, or as images for your picture phonebook, to show who is calling. Another fun aspect to this phone is the set of LED lights fitted along its sides, and these can be set to flash and warn you when certain events or functions are occurring.
