Siemens SL65

Siemens SL65 is a tri-band cameraphone and so is suitable for worldwide roaming. This is a successor to Siemens SL55 and it is another of the slider style of mobile phones, where the keypad section slides down when you want to use it. This slider approach ensures that the phone keeps its small and neat profile when in the closed position. The new SL65 model comes in a choice of 2 colours (ivory or ebony), and they both have an enamel-like band around the front and back to help define the handset's shape, giving an impression that they are elegant, without being flashy.

Among the phone's features is its GPRS and WAP technology, MMS multimedia messaging capability, voice memo-recorder, speakerphone for hands-free use, video capture and playback, Java enabled, and a full e-mail client.

The display on the SL65 is an active matrix TFT type of LCD with a resolution of 130 x 130 pixels, and it will reproduce up to 65,536 different colours. The display allows you to select from the phone's menus, view pictures and video downloads, as well as acting as the screen for playing games on. You can also personalise the phone's look and sound with new content downloaded over-the-air, via MMS messages, and by infrared or cable link from a PC. There is a wide range of logos, backgrounds, animations, ringtones in polyphonic sound and specially developed graphical themes to personalise the phone.

The integrated camera is a VGA device and this is capable of taking still pictures at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, or video at a resolution of 128 x 96 pixels (i.e. SubQCIF quality). The phone also has a 5x digital zoom provided, although there is no flashlight included for poor light conditions. However, an optional plug-in flashgun is available that enables you to take pictures indoors, at night, or in poor light conditions; this accessory is the Flash IFL-600, a flashgun with automatic exposure control even under low light conditions, and it is also designed to reduce red-eye. Images from this camera can be sent to your contacts, with accompanying text and sound, either by MMS message or e-mail, so that you can share all those special moments with others. As this phone is MMS capable it is possible to use it to send and receive messages containing a combination of video, pictures, sounds and text.

Being Java enabled means that the SL65 is also capable of running a wide range of Java applications and games. Some games (such as Golf and Rally) and several applications are already preloaded in the phone, but more of these programs may be downloaded when you want to try something new.

The integrated GPRS technology enables you to benefit from the faster data rates that this provides, giving you good access to the network and offering the added bonus of an “always on” connection, where you pay for the data you actually use rather than the length of time you are connected to the network. The WAP 2.0 browser provides fast access to the mobile Internet, and the chance to use the many information sources and services now available over WAP, which gives you the chance to find news, sports, traffic, weather, entertainment, business, banking, and much more from your phone while on the move. Another valuable feature in this phone is its full e-mail client, which supports the standard POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP protocols, and this gives you the opportunity to access all your e-mail correspondence while away form home.
